On the 24th of November, we celebrated Thanksgiving at the nursery! At Monkey Puzzle Angel, we share a variety of different events and festivities from all around the world, promoting our ‘Equality and Diversity’ nursery approach and teaching the children about different cultures.

Discoverers

Our Discoverers in the Baby Room were invited to being engaged in a Thanksgiving themed sensory play. As babies explore the world around them by using all their senses, this was a great opportunity to discover carrots, potatoes, corn and apples, as well as digging the compost using their hands and feelings its’ texture. They then hid the vegetables under the compost and had plenty of fun rediscovering them.

Explorers

Our Explorers in the Toddler Room were taught by Elena, our American/Irish practitioner, about the values of Thanksgiving which is a national holiday in America and Canada where we eat together and give thanks for the blessing of the harvest and the preceding year.

To commemorate this celebration, Elena and the children made some yummy pumpkin pie which is a typical dish being served on Thanksgiving day. We had so much fun making the pie and the pastry crust.

Here is the recipe for our delicious (eggless) pumpkin pie that we made:

  • 1 Can Pumpkin
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ginger
  • 2tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 can of Whipped chickpea juice (At Home you can use 2 eggs!)
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 roll of chilled Short crust pastry

1 hour/ 1 hour and half bake at 200C

After baking, check consistency by putting a knife in pie, should come out clean, then put in fridge for 2 hours to set. Enjoy with whipped cream if you like!

As part of our Thanksgiving celebrations, we also made our own little turkeys using our hand prints and gluing feathers onto our prints to make our gobbly characters!
