This pancake day our pre-schoolers celebrated with a trip to Crepe Affaire, a local Pancake restaurant. The children could choose between strawberries or bananas or both on top of their pancake. It was a lovely opportunity for the pre-schoolers to eat in a restaurant with their peers! It was great to exposure our pre-schoolers to this fantastic cultural capital experience where they could explore our neighbourhood, learn about eating in a restaurant, ordering in a restaurant all whilst celebrating pancake day and enjoying a yummy treat!
On Pancake day all of the children in the nursery made their own vegan pancakes which they enjoyed after their tea. They learnt about all the different ingredients, quantity, sharing and taking turns. Cooking activities are always a great opportunity for children to develop all areas of learning with the opportunity to share, expand their communication, count, and use numeracy terminology, explore different textures and understand the reason pancake day is celebrated. Our Toddlers even visited a local supermarket to buy the fresh fruit to top their homemade pancakes!
