On World Book Day this year, we celebrated and shared our love of reading stories.
In the morning, we went off on an adventure to a local bookshop where we explored different books and democratically decided on which ones to buy for the nursery, supporting children’s autonomy in book choices.

Throughout the day, the children were involved in a range of provocations to play, based on their favourite stories, such as creating our very own stickmen out of broken twigs, or making colour monsters with arts and crafts resources, linked to ‘The Colour Monster’ book.

In celebration of World Book Day, we all enjoyed dressing up in our favourite book character and were fully engaged in pretending to be e.g. Zog or Old Mother Hubbard. Beyond that, we invited some parents to a storytelling session to share their children’s favourite stories with us.

Reading stories to children gives fantastic opportunities to open up a new world for them, extends their creative thinking and imagination and supports their communication and literacy skills.
